Why Pilates?
After 10 sessions, you’ll feel it, after 20 you’ll see the difference. After 30 sessions, your whold body will renew itself. Joseph Pilates was one of the first to recognize and utilize the mind-body connection in the series of exercises he developed.
The method places particular emhasis on conscious movement. It’s as if our consciousness were working as one with our body.
- Foundations:
- Concentration: performing the exercise with the appropriate concentration
- Centering: each movement is achieved beginning from the center of the body
- Control: consciously performing each movement, without using momentum
- Breathing: breathing dictates the rhythm of the exercise, helps in carrying it out and in relaxation.
- Accuracy: it’s important to pay attention to correct achievement of the movements, including the details. It’s important to conform to the appropriate beginning and end points.
- Flow: the movement should be continuous! The exercises have no begnning and end – we can connect them with fluid motions.
Pilates is gentle, yet effective and enjoyable! It’s about quality, not quantity; but you can usually feel the benefits after just a few sessions. Recommended for anyone who wants to do themselves and their body a favor.
-
It is effective in healing in the following instances:
- back pain
- injuries or pain from asymmetric posture or muscle use
- limited flexibility
- posture imperfections
- injury prevention
- sport and dance injuries, illnesses and surgery
- post-partum complaints
- stressful lifestyle
- sedentary work
Choose from group or private Pilates classes. Private classes are a good choice for those who favor unique, intensive work. In group classes, pay attention only to your own body and its capabilities!
You should feel no pain during exercise, although after class, it’s possible you’ll feel muscles you hadn’t worked before. If any exercise doesn’t feel right or causes pain, discuss it with the instructor. It’s important to work gradually, and not try to do the most difficult versions of each exercise during your first class. If we give our body time, and if we’re patient, we’ll see results!
